AMOPERA is the result of an intensive encounter between Klangforum Wien and Belgian Needcompany, featuring Grace Ellen Barkey, Maarten Seghers, and Jan Lauwers. In this unique constellation - part musical time travel, part scenic performance - audiences are invited into a dynamic new concert format: a meta-opera. Spanning over 100 years of opera history and infused with Needcompany’s theatrical language, AMOPERA pioneers a bold approach to modern and contemporary opera.
By way of montage, adaptation, and concentration, excerpts from various works were interlinked in order to re-activate their artistic potential on a new level. “Amopera is a catastrophe, a contemporary battle, a dystopic ballad, a passionate dialogue, a healing process, an ode to the voice, to opera, to humanity; an ode to the richness and versatility of art.” — Jan Lauwers

The Italian premiere of AMOPERA in Bolzano at TRANSART25 is made possible also thanks to the support of the Think Tank Creativity grant from the Municipality of Bolzano and Bolzano UNESCO City of Music, in cooperation with Klangforum Wien and NOSPR Katowice, whom we thank for their generous support and for choosing to believe in the value of this cultural initiative.
