AMOPERA

AMOPERA is the result of an intensive encounter between Klangforum Wien and Belgian Needcompany, featuring Grace Ellen Barkey, Maarten Seghers, and Jan Lauwers. In this unique constellation - part musical time travel, part scenic performance - audiences are invited into a dynamic new concert format: a meta-opera. Spanning over 100 years of opera history and infused with Needcompany’s theatrical language, AMOPERA pioneers a bold approach to modern and contemporary opera.
By way of montage, adaptation, and concentration, excerpts from various works were interlinked in order to re-activate their artistic potential on a new level. “Amopera is a catastrophe, a contemporary battle, a dystopic ballad, a passionate dialogue, a healing process, an ode to the voice, to opera, to humanity; an ode to the richness and versatility of art.” — Jan Lauwers
