Alpen Étude

Florentina Holzinger

SEAWORLD VENICE, Florentina Holzinger’s contribution to the Austrian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale, unfolds beyond Venice in the format of Holzinger’s Études series — site-specific performances in which she prepares, expands, and defines the themes and elements of her work. On September 19, Holzinger’s elements come together in South Tyrol in the unique composition ALPEN ÉTUDE.

A group of performers and a shifting assemblage of technical elements form the core of a composition that reimagines the relationship between bodies, machinery, objects, and nature. Human and nonhuman forms immerse themselves in landscapes and re-emerge transformed. Within an apparently idyllic environment, performers merge with technical apparatus and material presences, inscribing themselves into nature through a hybrid ritual. The Étude brings together central elements of Florentina Holzinger’s practice: the orchestration of performative images of a feminism underpinned by technology and desire, where mechanical elements and physical endurance conjure new myths between water, air, and alpine landscape.

Further details about the performance will be announced soon.
Tickets will go on sale once the location has been revealed.
